I recently had the opportunity to review the documentary The Shadow Effect by Debbie Ford.

Whenever anything comes from the heart, it’s always a good thing and The Shadow Effect is no exception. It is a beautiful expression of how to understand and use that which we perceive as our dark sides as teachers to help us grow and heal.

Because of my training in the healing fields, much of its lessons I already knew, so I cannot say that it helped me. However, I do realize that it can help many and that 10 years ago it would have been helpful information to me as well. It came across to me that its essence is about self-acceptance, which is key to joy, peace, and love. And it helps to bring an awareness about how we can accept ourselves more. Debbie shares herself and her experiences in hopes that it helps us. I’m sure that it will for many. I would recommend it for anyone that is too hard on themselves and would like to grow or heal.

My only problem with it is some of their examples. There were at least a couple of instances where political references were used to provide example for the point they were trying to make at the time. To those of us that believe that such references developed as propaganda and distortions, the use of them even though the presenters no doubt believe their information, was alienating and somewhat disheartening.

All in all, I believe it is a worthwhile and helpful DVD for many. We can all use some help with our heart. This documentary should be just what some people need. Ask the Holy Spirit for Its guidance and follow your heart.
