Like 69... dating cop love black

Behind my Badge is a Heart Like Yours kicked off a series of reflections regarding my fiance’s chosen profession as a police officer. Some of his quirks are just him being him, while others are rooted in his gun slinging, criminal catching, drug opposing ways.#MyFuzz #HotFuzz

Here are the 10 things you should know if you plan on dating a cop:

1.) Expect random tactical gear lying around the house.

When a cop comes home from work, he removes all of his clothing and gear (yes, I said clothing.) This happens to include two sets of handcuffs, a bulletproof vest, and a gun. #HighMaintenanceMuch Most of the time it will remain right where it was taken off.

2.) Coffee will be replaced with beer.

Remember, 9 AM is 9 PM for these folks. Don’t pass judgement on a 9 AM cocktail. #CanIGetOne?

3.) There will be an obsession with squad cars.

When my fiance and I travel to a different country or state, the first thing he wants to see is what squad cars they’re rollin’ in—an obsession similar to my need to check out my pod mate’s outfit of the day.#ThoseShoesThough

4.) Dinner is interchangeable with nap time.

When other spouses complain about their husband or wife being late for dinner, you’ll be thinking about the last few years of them sleeping through dinner. #ButIMadePie

5.) The brotherhood is strong.

There is no other bond quite like the bond between cops. If it affects one, it affects them all. Honor this, it will save your police officer’s life.

6.) Your ears must be open.

You must be prepared to devote your full attention to listening about all those late-shift shenanigans. It will become a ritual, and your officer will rely on this time to unwind. #ImListening

7.) A simple goodbye is never a simple goodbye.

You will always fear the worst. They don’t carry a gun and wear a bulletproof vest for fun.

8.) Certain parts… well, no… most parts of town are off limits…

It’s no longer about buying a home. It’s about buying the neighborhood, and if your cop doesn’t like the neighborhood… forget the house.

9.) You will learn to memorize license plates.

Stop lights are a place where your officer can show off his or her brilliant skills of memorization. #ShowOff

10.) You will never turn your back on a door.

Resturants are no longer a place for dining; they are an all-out experience. Whether he is running scenarios, or asking to switch spots to see the door, date night just got a whole lot more interesting. #CopIntuition #WatchYourBack
