Last night my husband and I were having a conversation and Jesus’s teachings came up. He mentioned that we’re only human and that while we may strive to be Christ-like, that it is impossible.

I disagree with that. We have two mindsets on the matter. My husband’s is more traditional and very understandable. I used to believe similarly. But now it no longer makes sense. As God’s children, it is His Spirit within us that gives us life. It is His Spirit within us that is our essence. With God within us as our life-force, how can it be impossible for us not to be like God? Our Lord Jesus is God manifested on Earth and He was also human. He is the example of who we can each become.

Granted we don’t reach that state of Being in this lifetime or on this plane, but we have all infinity to learn all that there is. And because of God’s Love, it is Love that we’re being guided to. With God’s Love, it’s unavoidable that we will learn all that there is and become One with our Lord because that is the nature of God’s Love.

When we put ourselves down, we are in essence insulting our Creator. Loving parents do not see their children as inferior or unworthy. Loving parents do not hold themselves arrogant that they are superior or separate from their children. Loving parents want what’s best for their children. Loving parents see their children as equally important and more so. Loving parents hold the family unit as one entity and each individual in it with the utmost value. Loving parents try to elevate their children to be the best they can be. How much better and perfect then is God as our Parent?

So just as loving parents try to bring out the best in their children, so does our Lord. Is it our best to put ourselves down or hold ourselves down? The only limits that exist are those which we create for ourselves. God gave us the whole world and all that there Is to learn and grow from. Why limit ourselves from His possibilities and opportunities? Wouldn’t that be the same thing as turning a gift away? Only by being open to all He has to offer can All that He Is be given.

Then why not accept ourselves and the Divine within us? Why try to make the Divine within us something less than what it truly Is? Our heart of our soul is our connection with God. (This is located just below the physical heart and just behind it.) This is where the greatest communication of Spirit and God’s Love can  come through. So it is our heart that we need to listen to.

Someone once asked me, “What if the heart is wrong?” At the time I intuitively knew that it can’t be, but couldn’t articulate why at the time. The heart (of the soul) is where we get our passions and sense of purpose and deepening love for any and all. How can that be wrong? Where we get lost and confused is when such communication is ignored because we are wrapped up in our fears or angers or whatever issues we have to deal with. How can we clearly hear when we refuse to hear?

Certain meditational skills and other therapeutic activities such as walking or listening to music help to calm and still us so that we can hear. “Be still and know that I am God.”  Psalm 46:10

And the better listeners we become, the more we grow and can become who we are meant to be. As children we learn and grow. As God’s children, we will do the same. We will Become as we are guided by God’s Love, for we become from the examples set before us. So through infinity we will learn the Love that Is. That is the nature of Love. That is our nature as God’s children. By what path is up to us.

So let yourself be yourself. The truer you follow your heart, the truer you will know God. And yourself.

In my search for Truth, I will find Myself.   Irene Arndt
